Preparing for Your Surgery
- You and
your surgeon have decided that your scheduled procedure will be
performed at Physician's Choice Surgicenter .
- Questions
regarding your health will be asked. The information you provide
will assist us in
preparing you for your surgical experience.
- Depending
on the nature of your surgery and the type of anesthesia ,additional
testing may be necessary.
- Our staff
will call you the day before your surgery to tell you the time
to arrive at the surgery center. Have
a list of any medications that you are presently taking, prescription
and non-prescription. Include a list of any allergies (if any).

not heard from us by 2 pm the day prior to your surgery, please
call 718.322.9800
- Bathe or
shower and brush your teeth before coming to the Ambulatory surgery
center. Do not swallow any water when rinsing your mouth.
- Bring a
case for eyeglasses/contact lenses because you may not be allowed
to wear them to surgery.
- Wear loose,
comfortable clothing.
- Have a list
of any medications that you are presently taking, prescription
and non-prescription. Include a list of any allergies (if any).
- Bring your
Medicare or health insurance cards, papers, or identifying number.
- We suggest
that you limit the number of people accompanying you to one.
- If you
require any sedation for your surgery, a friend or family member
must drive you home after the procedure. Your ride home must be
with a responsible adult who knows you and is willing to stay
with you until you are properly settled and comfortable. This
ride must be readily available when you are ready for discharge.
- Do not eat
or drink anything after midnight prior to your scheduled surgery.
This includes chewing gum, candy, mints and water.
- Do not wear
makeup, nail polish, hairpins or hairclips.
- Do not wear
jewelry.
- Do not bring
large amounts of cash or valuables.

The
Day of Surgery
- Physicians
Choice Surgienter is conveniently located. Follow the map to our
facility.

- Please check
in at the reception window to announce your arrival.
- The receptionist
may request your insurance card and will make a copy of it.
- You will
be instructed to either wait in the reception area or you will
be escorted into the pre-operative area.
- In the
pre-operative area you will be given further instructions and
also will be asked to change into a surgery gown.
- At the appropriate
time you will be greeted by your surgery team and escorted to
the operating room.
- After your
procedure, you will be taken to the recovery area.
- After you
have recovered from your anesthetic, the nurses will provide you
with instructions regarding your post-operative home care.
